Belle Meade

Belle Meade

Belle Meade is an example of a famous southern plantation. Areas around Nashville were divided into plantations. Over the years, the plantations were further subdivided and eventually filled with modern subdivisions.

Many of the houses in the area are very beautiful and extremely large. Even the "small" ones had huge lots and are extremely inexpensive compared to California standards.

Fern, Maureen and her Mom

Fern, Maureen and her Mom

Fern's friend Maureen lives in Franklin, south of Nashville. We visited her and her Mom there.

Yogi says "Hello"

Yogi says "Hello"

We stayed at the Jellystone RV Park in Nashville, right next to the Grand Ole Opry. We couldn't find the KOA park, so Yogi and his friends welcomed us with open paws.

Dotson's Restaurant

Dotson's Restaurant

We had a traditional southern meal of fried chicken at this popular Franklin restaurant. Many country singers are regulars here, including the Judds.

The Chocolate Pecan Pie was to die for.

Southern House

Note the front porch that all southern houses seem to have.

The Aftermath

The Aftermath

The victorious Union soldiers erected this monument and burried their dead comrades at the scene of the battle.

The south seems to be littered with historic sites.
