Introduction
We visited Louisiana and New Orleans to visit Fern's friends and family (and their pets -- this is Henry.) We also got a chance to see some of the destruction from Hurricane Katrina first-hand.
The experience was surreal. At times, things seemed completely back to normal. At other times, we felt like we were in a third-world country. For example, we needed some repair work done on our RV. We had to drive 1.5 hours out of New Orleans and beg to get someone to even look at it in less than a week. This is because so many people have left the area, most businesses are short on labor. At the same time, there is 35% unemployment. Go figure.
