After Colorado Springs, we drove west. We stopped at Great Sand Dunes National Park on the way.
While attempting a shortcut to get to Great Sand Dunes National Park, we came across these cows. They weren't real happy to let us pass.
This is as far as we got on our shortcut. Once we saw mud, we stopped. Because it was getting late, we hunkered down just off the road for the night. We were at about 8000 feet altitude, and only 6 miles from our destination (as the crow flies). Unfortunately, we're not crows.
The scenery at the Great Sand Dunes National Park was spectacular, with snow covered mountains, trees changing color, and the sand dunes.
We stopped at this Nature Conservancy site just south of the National Park. Walking through the grounds was like being in a postcard. It was a beautiful day, warm with clear skies, birds singing, just unbelievable.
