Chicago Waterfront

Chicago Waterfront

I was surprised to find that the waterfront area of Chicago (particularly beaches, swimming, partying, fitness activities, etc.) is more integrated into the city environment than many other large waterside cities I've seen, probably because the beaches are very close to downtown. This is a long stretch with beautiful skyline views. The water to the left is used for swimming long laps, and there are lifeguards posted along the way.

This is the 92-story hotel that Trump is building in Chicago. The winner of one of the Apprentice seasons is apparently involved in this project.

Corncob Towers

Corncob Towers

When these towers were built, the idea was to incorporate living, entertainment, parking shopping, dining, etc. all in one environment. We're seeing this idea making a comeback in the 'new urbanism' movement.

Millenium Park Fountain

Millenium Park Fountain

Millenium Park is a new park area in Chicago, containing scupltures, an amphitheater and this fountain/scuplture/media installation. There are two of these large video walls facing each other. The faces on each move and change as water flows from the top, sides, and even the mouths of he faces on the walls. Children, of course, have a ball with it on hot days.

The Bean

The Bean

This Millenium Park sculpture was quickly nicknamed The Bean by Chicagoans.

The distortion of images of people and the surrounding buildings in the highly polished curved surface of The Bean is a source of endless amusement.
